My 2 Super Seals
Left: My first SS record I bought back when I was 15 (2001-02?). Practiced everyday with that record watching Qbert’s DIY videos, learning every scratch-combo, 6 hours a day, for 2 years straight. I only had one good turntable then (Vestax PDX 2000) so I had a sticker marked at the 12 o’clock which on those turntables (straight arm) was at a different point than normal (s-arm). Every groove is staticky, cue-burnt, and surprisingly the entire skratch side of the record is smooth like a river-washed stone. I beat the crap out of that record (yes, scratching does ruin records sound-wise) so much it hardly has a label left. Was actually used for a few more years although was not doing the 6 hr/day training like in the first two years.
Right: My current SS Record, bought back in 2006. I felt I needed to give my first SS a retirement since I had new turntables (Technics 1200’s S-arm), making the 12 o’clock marker more like 1 o’clock, plus I wanted to give my cuts a cleaner sound without the fuzz and cue burn (especially cuz I was also just getting into recording). Its been my side-kick chillin in my gig bag since then, taken it to scratch sessions, Skratchpad, shows, etc… The abuse on it now is becoming somewhat similar to the first SS although I hardly practice anymore (due to getting into parties, girls, money, life, etc…). Still got some good record label wear tho ;)
