Skratchpad’s 2010 Year-End Finale last night (I posted this late) was really really DOPE. Bars were raised, A-games were brought, past/present/future generations were represented, backpack hip-hoppers in full-effect, bboys in the main room, MPC’s on deck, turntable legends in the building, full house.. Not sure if it was the stars were aligned or what but it was definitely a night to be remembered.
Most memorable moments/acts:
La Femme Deadly Venoms (LadyFingaz, Celskiii, Deeandroid, Kat10) - Such dope flow/song construction. I closed my eyes a few times during their set and just listened to the groove. Everything on point, funky and fresh :)
Mista-B (4OneFunk) - Always a dope performer, his whole set was a journey of funk, synths, and funky juggles. Literally it was like a story being told.
Bullet Proof Space Travelers/Scratch Hamsters - My first time seeing them all perform together, the sounds were old school, the tricks were classic but mastered to perfection, made me feel like it was 1993 (although I didn’t know of them guys in 1993 :P). These guys were super clean and on point, the power scratches that Quest does with such ease is bananas. Really really dope set.
Other acts included DJ Habit (dope battle set), Asthma Funk (crazy hypnotic technical scratcher set with guests juggles by Traps+Cassette), DJ 8-ball (busting the classic ‘Don’t stop the Rock’, ‘Iron Man’, with also some newer routines), Hopie Spitshard (always killing it, 6Fingers replacing Snayk Eyes as DJ), oh and myself too (doing new Shutterbug/Midas Touch/Chromeo routines+more).. :)
Because of all the performances the Open Tables segment of the night got crunched down to the last 10 minutes of the night.
Definitely a memorable night and still bug out when I think about it. Big ups to all the Skratchpad fam!!!
THIS JUST IN!!!
Mista-B was dope enough to record the night and post it up for everyone on Mixcrate.
