RIP DJ AM

Its super sad to see one of the biggest DJ’s to impact club DJing have to pass away so early. I first found out about him by listening to a bootleg Power 106 Radio Mix that was floating around the internet like 3-4 years ago? I was pretty impressed and it wasn’t until I later found out about his salary+celebrity status that I was like ‘foreal? that guy? he’s THAT famous?’, I mean for a DJ with skills, I had no idea. I’ve never actually met him but from listening to how he ripped that first Power 106 Mix, he definitely inspired me to bring out the turntablist side of me in my mixes. He never entered a DMC, scratch-dj battle or anything, but AM always found a way to set himself up and bust a scratch in his mixes in even the most upscale trendy clubs. He was a man of incredible talent and whenever i come across a mix of his I’m blown away at the creativity and craftmanship he put into the set. I don’t know how he did it, but for his ‘celebrity/whatever’ status he def backed it up with skills. Its DJ’s like AM, A-trak, Craze, Jazzy Jeff, that inspire me to bring in both mixing and battling worlds together in my mix sets. From everyone that I’ve spoken to (that’s a DJ) they def feel the impact of who he was and what he did to the club scenes. He’ll be missed but I’m sure he’s up there rockin one of Biggie’s house parties right about now…
